スキャンした紙の書類や写真が多いPDFのメール添付・アップロード容量を抑えたいときに向いています。Wordなどから書き出した文字中心のPDFでは、文字が選択・検索できなくなるうえ、サイズが逆に大きくなることもあるためおすすめしません。 Best for shrinking scanned paper documents or photo-heavy PDFs before emailing or uploading. Not recommended for text-based PDFs (e.g. exported from Word) — text will no longer be selectable, and the file may even get larger.

圧縮すると文字が選択できなくなるのはなぜですか？Why can't I select text after compressing?
各ページをいったん画像として書き出し直すため、文字の情報が失われて画像の一部になります。文字を残したまま軽量化したい場合はこのツールは不向きです。Each page is re-rendered as an image, so the text information is lost and becomes part of the picture. This tool isn't suitable if you need to keep selectable text.
どんなPDFに向いていますか？What kind of PDF works best?
スキャンした紙の書類や写真が多いPDFによく効きます。文字中心のPDFや、すでに軽いPDFでは効果が薄いか、逆にサイズが大きくなることがあります。PDFs made of scanned documents or photos compress very well. Text-heavy or already-small PDFs may see little benefit, or could even get larger.
